Abigail Osei Launches Campaign for Twi Alphabet book to support Ghanaians in the Diaspora

A new children’s book from Abigail Osei introduces families to the Twi alphabet. The book is filled with beautiful illustrations that remind you of your childhood.

Abigail Osei, a Ghanaian philanthropy professional and author living in New York City, has announced the launch of a Kickstarter campaign for Let’s Learn Twi: Alphabet (Ma Yɛnsua Twi). The beautifully illustrated children’s book is aimed at families with young children and tourists alike. It is a gentle introduction to the Twi alphabet. The campaign will run until April 14th, when orders will be sent to the printer.

The new book aims to support families as they teach their children Twi. The book’s goal is to help stop the erosion of the Twi language in the diaspora. As more generations of Ghanaians are born outside of Ghana, fewer children retain the language, customs, and traditions. Without support, the cultural gap between Ghanaians in the diaspora and those in Ghana will continue to widen. Language is only the first step in Abigail’s vision. With a successful campaign, she will continue to expand not only into the language, but also Ghanaian customs and traditions.

Twi Alphabet book

Born in Atibie, Ghana, Abigail has spent most of her life in New York City. Although she has been out of Ghana for a long time, the love of the language, culture, and traditions has never left her heart. So, when she noticed that the children in their North American Ghanaian community were not learning Twi, she decided to do something about it. Let’s Learn Twi is the first of what she hopes to be a line of culture materials that will support families in the diaspora.
